“JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES” AND THE NAME OF GOD
The Jehovah's Witnesses claim that the Christian Church has colluded in removing the name "Jehovah" from the Bible, and that they alone confess the true name of God. They say that over 7,000 times the name Jehovah (Yahweh, the tetragrammaton, YHWH) has been changed in the KJV to LORD. Since their New World Translation (NWT) retains the original name Jehovah, they, so their claim, must be the true followers of God.
JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH ALONE
To be justified before God is to hear God say about us, “This person is perfectly innocent, free from all guilt and worthy of eternal life.” To be condemned (the opposite of justification) is to hear God say about us, “This person is guilty and therefore worthy of eternal death.” One who is justified knows that his sins are forgiven and that he has a perfect legal standing before God. He is sure that he will go to heaven to be with God forever.
WHAT ABOUT MY GOOD WORKS?
Many people believe that God has a balance or a set of scales in heaven. Into one side, He places our good works; and into the other side, He places our evil works. If our good works outweigh our evil works, we will go to heaven. If our evil works outweigh our good works, we will not go to heaven, at least not immediately.
But that is not what God’s Word teaches.
In Debt… to God!
You and I are in debt. I do not mean that we have personal debts (bills, bank overdrafts, unpaid credit cards, etc.); nor that every country in the world seems to have borrowed beyond what it can repay. I mean that we owe God, our Creator, a debt of love and obedience which we cannot pay.
